Fishing
Fishing is free on both Loch Long and Loch Goil. In these fjord-like lochs, a range of fish such as cod, whiting, mackerel, wrasse and pollack can be caught. However, make sure you throw the little ones back and only kill what you intend to eat. Its also worth noting that you are not permitted to fish for salmon or trout in these waters so if you accidentally catch one, they must be returned to the water alive and unharmed. Fishing can be enjoyed from the banks and shores or from boats which can be hired from Loch Goil Cruisers (along with the hire of rods). Beware the seals as they will not only steal your fish, but can take the whole rod if you’re not careful.
If river fishing is more your thing, permits for fishing the River Goil can be obtained from the village post office. The River Goil is classified by Scottish Government as Category 3 and therefore any salmon caught must, by law, be returned unharmed to the river.
